Siemens Unveils First UL Listed Solar Safety Switch for Three 600Vdc Circuits

ATLANTA, Thursday, June 17, 2010

Siemens Industry, Inc. introduces the first heavy duty, UL listed, three-pole solar disconnect switch able to control three separate 600VDC circuits. Available in 30, 60 and 100-amp ratings, the Solar Photovoltaic Type VBII Safety Switch lowers equipment and installation costs by doing the work of three traditional switches in similar solar applications.

Unique in design, the new switch outperforms conventional safety switches by utilizing powerful magnets which are strategically located within the line bases to quickly disperse and extinguish arcs when negative-ground 600VDC circuits are opened under load. Available in fusible and non-fusible versions, the Solar Photovoltaic Type VBII Safety Switch comes in Type 1 and 3R enclosures for indoor and outdoor installations. A factory installed ground bar is standard, as is a rolled front flange that prevents damage to conductor insulation and injuries to installer’s hands.

A metal handle with a large plastic grip offers positive stop in both ON and OFF positions. Two and three-point mounting provisions are also standard as are large top, bottom and side gutters to help facilitate wiring.
