On Monday, August 8, Boeing and Siemens announced a strategic alliance for the joint development and marketing of “smart grid” technologies to improve energy access and security for the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), the largest energy consumer in the federal government. The collaboration centers on providing U.S. military installations with secure microgrid management solutions that lower operational costs and increase energy efficiency.

On December 10th, Siemens Industry, Inc. successfully opened its new distribution center for electrical distribution products, controls and motors in Southaven, Miss. Siemens held a grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting for the distribution center employees as well as local and state officials to view the facility. Over 175 guests attended the event, which featured remarks from Daryl Dulaney, president and CEO, Siemens Industry, Inc., Southaven Mayor Greg Davis, Sen. Merle Flowers, Rep. Wanda Jennings, Congressman-elect Alan Nunnelee.
Siemens announced on October 28th that it has been awarded a $466 million contract to build 70 electric locomotives for Amtrak's Northeast and Keystone Corridor lines as part of Amtrak's landmark fleet rejuvenation initiative. The contract will create 250 jobs, with 200 in Sacramento, Calif. and 50 collectively in Norwood, Ohio and Alpharetta, Ga.
