SPRING HOUSE (August, 2005) ― Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. announces that Siemens has received the CSA, FM, and Atex approvals for its Sitrans LR 200 radar level transmitter. This allows the device to be used in hazardous areas containing flammable gases, such as in the chemical and petrochemical industries, without the requirement for an intrinsically-safe barrier.
The Sitrans LR 200 instrument is a 2-wire, loop-powered pulse radar transmitter for level measurement of liquids in bulk storage or process vessels. The device is suitable for the chemical, pharmaceuticals and petrochemical industries. Typical applications are liquids with high temperatures, high pressure, vapor or vacuum. The device is easy to install, program and operate using the four-language, alphanumeric display and the intrinsically-safe, infrared, handheld programming device. The housing lid need not be opened, even in the Ex area.
The instrument is easy to set up. Two parameters are sufficient for the basic function, and there is no need for echo profile analysis at startup. The compact electronics are mounted on a rotating housing. This can be adjusted to facilitate connection and guarantee a good view of the measured value display after installation. The Sitrans LR 200 level transmitter offers high immunity to condensation or other deposits, works at the low frequency of 6.3 GHz and supplies signals for measuring ranges up to 65 feet. The patented Sonic Intelligence Software for signal processing is extremely reliable. In addition, Auto False-Echo Suppression detects and suppresses false echoes from tank obstructions.
