Siemens Blended Learning

Siemens Blended Learning

Siemens the global leader in automation now provides "Blended Learning" educational support. Blended learning leverages multi-media technologies providing students an opportunity to "jump-start" learning. When students are at a common base level of competency and have a unified technical vocabulary, skill building can be accelerated.

Siemens classroom training courses have moved to a "systems environment" which better represents the real-world challenges students face daily. This systems environment now includes the S7 PLC, Human Machine Interface, Drive systems, Ethernet and PROFIBUS networks, all tied into a single student training workstation! This Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) learning environment requires students to be better prepared when entering the classroom. Blended learning through these on-line prerequisite modules provides this opportunity. Shift your learning into high-gear with Siemens Blended Learning.

Blended Learning modules conclude with self guided quizzes for the student to judge their progress. Quizzes are for the students benefit only, test score are not recorded by Siemens or made available to anyone. Enjoy your Siemens Blended Learning experience!

Blended Learning Modules

PLCs for Beginners

PLCs for Beginners

This on-line course is a solid introduction to Programmable Logic Controllers. Students will learn the key terminology and architecture of Siemens SIMATIC S7 automation systems. In addition, students will build needed skills in the fundamentals of I/O addressing, numbering systems and basic program logic elements. Students completing this Blended Learning module will be better prepared for any Siemens entry level S7 course.

Prerequisite to:

S7 PROFIBUS

S7 PROFIBUS

This on-line course provides the fundamental of the architecture and communications protocols of a PROFIBUS network. The principles of the server-client device relationships, token passing and client polling are presented with animated graphics. Basic network installation rules and media types are introduced. Typical PROFIBUS DP data communication and management issues including application examples are provided. Student completing this Blended Learning module will have a distinct head start when attending the hands-on classroom course.

Prerequisite to:

ProTool Pro

ProToolPro

This on-line course provides a quick tour of ProTool software. Most control system today have some from of Operator Interface for control, monitoring or alarm management purposes. The Siemens systems environment learning includes issues of interfacing the PLC with the Operator Panel and it's value in the system troubleshooting process. This tutorial provides a jump-start to navigating a typical operator panel project including moving to various screens, interpreting and acknowledging alarms and dynamic controls. In addition, this tutorial provides a basic introduction to a simple project configuration including graphics design, PLC data tagging and management. This Blended Learning module will provide the student with a solid foundation of any typical Human Machine Interface (HMI) and it's interface to the PLC.

Prerequisite to:

STEP7

STEP7

The STEP7 Blended Learning tutorials are all down loadable modules. From basic system configuration through the fundamentals of HMI integration, these Blended Learning modules fully prepare the student for hands-on classroom activities. Each module includes a menu of sub-topics with full animation and narration for an easy and fun learning experience. Accelerate your learning with Siemens Blended Learning tutorials.

Prerequisite to:

S7 ETHERNET

S7 Ethernet

This on-line course provides a solid introduction into Industrial Ethernet technology. Student will learn the basic network architecture rules, cabling options and commissioning issues of a Ethernet network. The TCP/IP protocol including the 7 layer model is discussed in detail. Standard network components of hubs, switches, repeaters and links are presented with examples of typical network layouts. The session concludes with a step-by-step procedure for configuring Ethernet within STEP7 software. Students completing this Blended Learning module will have a great start on the key issues and terminology of networking and will be prepared for the next level of hands-on implementation and troubleshooting.

Prerequisite to:

MicroMaster 420

MicroMaster420

This on-line course focuses on the drive system. In a systems approach to training, the drive is becoming a more important element in the control system. Increasing demands for precision motion management and communications fully integrated with the PLC put the drive system into the spot light. This tutorial delivers the need to know information of power feeds, motor control requirements and phasing. Interactive graphics lead the student through a typical panel construction and commissioning of a simple drive system. The functions of the drive Operator Panel including key drive parameters are included. Basic motor performance and tag data is reviewed. Finally an interactive graphic allows the student to dynamically control a simple application. This Blended Leaning module provides an excellent foundation for people servicing and industrial drive system.
